Success Story

Mothers Story

When Torie’s eighth grade report card showed he was failing four subjects, his mother reached out to Big Hands Helping Little Hearts foundation. Immediately we stepped in to help Torie. Big Hands Helping Little Hearts Foundation director and she listened to Torie's mother express her frustration and disinterest in how Torie has been not trying anymore and how this is leading him down the wrong path and not completing assignments. She believed in his ability to be successful in class. After meeting his Mentor Marcus, and becomibg a big brother to Torie going out to eat, movies, baseball games. They began to meet every day after school to problem-solve on homework. Marcus helped him set realistic goals for raising his grades, encouraging Torie to focus on turning F’s into C’s and, later, into B’s and A’s. After weeks of one-on-one support, Torie proudly shared his new report card with his mom and together they celebrated the three B’s he had worked so hard to achieve. Torie continues to try his best in school and, with Marcus's mentorship and encouragement, is on his way to bringing up his last low grade in math by working closely with his teachers.
